Steveboski's ROTJ build

Thanks everyone!

I think the jetpack is finished other than a little weathering to the metal bits and then to seal the whole thing.

I've still got to do a few finishing touches to the armor and ee3, then I need to shorten the vest a little, but there's a light at the end of the tunnel.

Trooped at my first con this weekend, Soonercon 28 in Norman Oklahoma. Overall thought it went pretty well. Nothing fell off or broke, got some thumbs up from a couple of 501st guys, so pretty good altogether.

Looks great. The blaster came out nice. Can you talk a little bit about your jumpsuit and mounting your armor on the vest? I'm working on that stage with my ROTJ and like to see how folks do those parts.

No problem, the flight suit is from BobaMaker, the only modifications I made to it are sewing a couple of pieces of elastic to the wrists to help keep the sleeves taught under the gauntlets. The loop goes over the thumb and back down, gloves cover. The suit was a little long for me so instead of altering I just bought some cheap suspenders and clip the back clips to the seam at the waist and pull up the waist at the front until the crotch fits correctly then clip again. This is all covered by the flak vest so no worries. I've got the soft side of Velcro sewn on at the knee caps and waist to help hold those pieces on. For weathering, I got the suit wet and used a spray bottle with acrylic paints to weather. Mostly browns and blacks, very watered down. Once it dried I used the same colors in the airbrush to hit areas that needed to be darker, pouches, seams, etc. Finally, I sewed a clip into the right sleeve that the gauntlet hoses connect to.

For the flak vest, it is also from Bobamaker, I weathered it with the airbrush with soot colored black. The plates are connected via jewellery pin and clutch backs, think tie pins. These are held to the plates with jb weld. Aligning the plates was the hardest part but this method allows you to keep trying until it is right. Once you've got everything aligned, make sure your vest ends an inch or so from the bottom of your bottom plate, otherwise it looks off. I used the button hole maker on the sewing machine for the holes for the straps and bar for the jp harness.

Let me know if you had questions about anything specific besides that.

Thanks for sharing! Very cool. Do you have a pic of the vest you could share? I'd love to see how that looks on it for your connections. I'm still trying to figure out what I'm going to do and aiming for the Chicago screws/grommet system, but I don't know for sure.

I'm planning to dye my jumpsuit, but I'm still paranoid and trying to read threads on anyone that's done the ROTJ and likes a good mixture. Looks like you had yours as is from Bobamaker. I'd love to not dye mine, but I just feel like it needs it. LOL Great job on the weathering. I appreciate the tips and technique. Well done!

I appreciate it! Dyeing stuff can be nerve wracking, I did a Y wing flight suit and getting the gray right was a challenge. Trying mixing multiple dyes to get the right color and do several test swatches first to get the mix right and the time submerged correct.
