Great job as always. It's really interesting to watch the process. I'm especially liking the grayish/scratched off looking patches on the temple area of this side:
Did you spray the dark paint, then sand or scratch through to the white, or did you brush paint in the scratches?
Are you planning to weather the lens and the chin pad? They look so new next to the paint job. Maybe some sort of black stain with the brown vinyl worn through might look cool.
Thanks, all! It's an interesting helmet design and I'm digging the way it came out.
Count D,
The darker weathering was airbrushed on, then I scratched thru it with an X-acto blade and used some medium grit sandpaper very lightly to break it up a little more.
Not sure if I want to mess with the chin pad or not. I was considering giving it a darker brown mist with some Createx fabric paint that I have left over from other projects, but for now, I'm just enjoying having it on display.
Fantastic work Eric. I'd really like to add pics of your helmet to SWH if possible?
Last week I did a HUGE update to my site (thanks to massive help from Art Andrews BTW) and as part of that added some cool photos of an original RotJ Y-Wing and a new-found (unfinished) production-made helmet.
More pics of differeing Rebel pilots from this page (see the Rebel Pilot Section), including original, licensed and fan-made.
