First Ever Build: Custom Mando Build Log

New Hunter
Hello Guys!

TL : DR
So as you can probably guess by the title this is my first ever build, over the coming weeks I will upload regular pictures showing you how its coming along. Also if you have any tips or suggested improvements please post them as I am always looking to learn new things

About a couple of months ago I stumbled across this forum after looking into building a star wars related costume, I got really intrigued and needless to say inspired by all of the amazing bits you have made on here. I have closely followed some of the threads and I decided I wanted to have a go at building my own mando. So far I have made the helmet which has been incredibly enjoyable. Ok maybe not the sanding but the rest was! I will post all of the pictures I have of the helmet and the making process onto this thread.

I am now attempting to make the rest of the armour over the course of the upcoming weeks so if you are interested please feel free to stick around and keep up to date with this build log as I will be uploading regular progress shots. As I am new to prop making and don't actually know what I am doing (just playing everything by ear) please feel free to comment with any tips/techniques or suggestions for the build. I am always open to new ideas and would love to learn new skills along the way.

Also if anyone could recommend a material I could use for the visor that would be amazing as it's currently fabric and offers only poor visibility!

Ok so it was actually a lot easier to upload all of my build shots for the helmet to this imgur album if you want to see them please feel free to look here:

I will also upload a few of the shots below, for those of you that are interested: The shell is a 3D Print that my mate kindly did for me as there were an ungodly amount of print errors I had to fix a during the sculpting progress. I used a mix of bondo and this air hardening clay for the helmet which actually worked amazingly well. I was sceptical about how the clay would hold up during the sanding/painting process but amazingly it did so really well. For paint I just used autobody spray paint and silver acrylic for dry brushing. Weathering was done with brown and black shoe polish watered down and sponged on and off.
