BKBT Jango paint up for TD0488

I decided to take a couple months break from my scratchbuilt ESB Boba paintjob and do a commission paint job for fellow member TD0488 and his BKBT Jango bucket. Thanks for allowing me the opportunity, Ral. It was a pleasure and a great change of pace. The Jango helmet has its own share of challenges like the natural metal finish. I duplicated it with Alclad polished aluminum and was extremely satisfied with the results and is a great alternative to R&B. My hats off to BKBT and his excellent casting. It was a pleasure to work on. This was my first experience with a helmet other than my own and the craftsmanship is incredible. Enjoy.

Very nice. I saw a pic on the RPF of a Boba bucket painted with Alclad, and I would swear the thing had been chromed.

Is it subject to fingerprint transfer or does it give a pretty tough finish, and is that clearcoated or would clearcoat take off the shine?

Looks Awesome! What kind of process is involved with the Alcad Polished Aluminum application, spray painting, some type of powder coating??? :confused

THX

:cheers

The Alclad is pretty tough by itself as far as metalllic finishes go, but I clearcoated it to be sure it stayed that way. The key to clear coating is coat the metallic finish with Future to protect the finish from the clear coats. Once set you have to mist on coats of clear lacquer letting it flash between coats. Build up half a dozen coats and let stand for a week. After that I wet sand and polish like any other finish. The base coat I use is Krylon Gloss Black wet sanded and polished before applying the lacquer based Alclad spray. The bonus was I could tape off the gloss black base coat to replicate the stripes.:cheers

Beautiful artistry!!

If I ever had to do a Jango helmet paint-up...I'd come to you first after seeing the high quality of your work and the care you put into it once the job is complete.:thumbsup:

I can never find Future floorwax and have looked in many places. Meijer, Wally World, K-Mart, Krogers, Winn-Dixie...where do you get this stuff?

I used a 99 cent acrylic paint from Hobby Lobby. The color was raw umber thinned with water and applied with an artist's fan brush. I didn't use an airbrush or pastels on this one to avoid applying any sealing coats. The darker blue areas received some washes immediately removing any excess w/ a damp paper towel. I honestly have not bought Future for a couple of years. One bottle should last a lifetime. I thought I purchased it at Wal-Mart though.

Wow, I went camping for six days and come back to an aewsome thread. THe helmet is even more awesome to see in person. SD68's work, painting, and communication are second to NO ONE! HE sent progress pics about every sixth day and was easy to work. Plus those mad painting skills. Anyone needing a work up on a Jango should contact SD68. He is HIGHLY recommened.
And thanks to BKBT for the helmet. As SD68 said, it is a work of art.

Thanks again SD68 for the hard work.
