Voice Changer Options

I've been looking at a number of different voice changing options and want to get your input. A few points up front:
  • I like bulletized lists.
  • I have a personal android phone and an iPhone 7S from my employer. This means I'm hesitant to put additional apps on the phone and cannot purchase an app because my app store purchases are linked to my employment.
  • While the ability to do other voices is nice, my only interest at this time is Boba Fett distortion (Winegreen).
  • I prefer not to order outside of the US. This is solely because if something goes wrong and requires back and forth shipping, it can get costly for both parties. Not a deal breaker.
  • I'm not looking for the cheapest option, I'm looking for the easiest and most hassle-free option that is still of high quality.

I have so far found:
  • Hyperdyne
    • This seems to fit what I want but I have read some negative things about it here
    • Out of stock
    • Not returning emails
  • ROM/FX
    • Not specifically designed for Fett but from what I've read can be adjusted to have it work
    • UK-based
  • Voice Synth App (DeathProof's setup)
    • Seems pretty decent
    • iPhone based
  • TRamp (http://www.facebook.com/trooperamp)
    • Looks on par with ROM/FX
    • UK-based
  • TrooperTalk
    • Another phone app
    • Don't know if it supports Android
    • Still in development

Are there other options I'm missing? Should I not worry about shipping to the US from UK with these guys? What overall inputs do you fine folks have to this setup?

Here's the thing. Wingreen's voice is not really distorted. It is naturally gravelly. You can make your own voice gravelly when you talk. The TK simulators have to add static and popping. Boba Fett did not have static and popping.

I used the VoiceBooster amplifier. I put the amplifier in one of the pockets with some foam and I run a wire up through the flight suit. I just simulate a gravelly voice. It also gets you into character.

It is true that there is a slight overdriven effect to Fett's voice and some frequency modulation, but I think you will have a hard time replicating that effect.

I don't really like the artificial voice modulators. They never seem to work. I bought one for a Bane mask a while ago and it didn't work as well as me amplifying and disguising my own voice.

I'll chime in here just to mention that I stopped using my setup. It was one more thing to put together in an already lengthy suit up time. I simplified it to just a wireless mic, with my aker in my front thigh pouch so my voice actually goes forward and not to the side like I originally had). I rasp my voice to create the effect and it does a fairly decent job. Helps when the jetpack chokes you a bit ;)

One way to make this easier on yourself is to have the volume cranked on your amp a bit so that: 1) you can be heard; 2) you don't need to strain your voice so much to be heard. Also it's a good idea to have the mic close to your lips so that you can really get that back-of-the-throat smoker's voice :)

Just using a voice amp with the mic close to your lips changes the sound of your voice, & most people are surprised when you actually speak. I agree with DeathProof, just make your voice a little lower with a rasp, people don't know any different.

Aker in the thigh pouch with a mic, I use a wired mic & run the wire inside my flight suit. With the amp in your thigh pouch it is accessible & you can lower the volume if need. I prefer having it loud.

I have modified my 10Amp Aker unit to remove the bottom end of the Bass by fitting an 800 Microfarad Capacitor in line on the positive speaker wire. This now has the speaker going down to 500Hz instead of to 125Hz, this seems really good for fett. (The TK is a much higher radio tone of 2000Hz Upwards to 20k Hz.
