The Mandalorian - Camtono

New Hunter
Hey everyone.

Started working on my "Camtono" today for toting my stockpiles of Beskar.

Figured I'd share the progress. I've got a thread over on the RPF as well, but thought it best to also post here.

I know the original prop from Empire is an ice cream maker, but the one featured in The Mandalorian has a few... functional details I wanted to capture.

Here's today's effort from the front:

I've carefully scaled and measured the placement of all the 'doors' the rotary at the top and the front/rear arms (or left / right depending on perspective I guess).

Side view, with the doors off, and a screengrab for reference:

Here's another front view with a different reference shot, note the model isn't rotated to align with the screenshot here, I was using it for measurements:

Obviously a long way to go yet, but it's roughed in pretty solidly for a day's effort.

More to follow.

Small update:

Working on the switch panel. Fusion has me backed into a corner on the rocker switches for some reason, (can't sketch on an object that is extruded from a projection?) so I might have to rethink a plan of attack on those. Details are slowly falling into place though. Added some fillets around some of the seams where they were necessary around the neck of the rotary piece at the top:

What do you plan on doing with this when it’s done? I’d love to be able to print one!
I tried modeling this quick the other day but I ran out of time and couldn’t figure out the doors on the first go

I'll probably print this as a display piece, but we'll have to see how far it gets past the prototype stage, and whether or not the electronics controls for mechanically unlocking the doors is feasible. If it doesn't end up looking like doing a 'kit' would be attractive/wanted or efficient, then I'll probably just release the STLs to those that want to make their own.

Honestly I've got a pile of Jurassic Park props waiting to be finished and I really ought to be working on those

Keep an ear to the ground, and when the models are all done, shoot me a PM.

I managed to resolve the issue with Fusion, sort of... but I kind of cheated my way around it:

Unfortunately I had to sort of eyeball my sketchplane, and then projected onto the switch, but it worked alright. Control panel is mostly done now.

Small update:

Reworking the cylinder walls, and focusing attention on the inside of the Camtono:

Here's my source reference:

As you can see the walls are actually quite thin, and each of the three 'legs' are shaped kind of like extruded I-Beams. with details between. I'm working on carving those shapes out of the solid bodies I already have.

More to follow soon.

Another small update on the Camtono. I've roughed in the details of the I-Beam 'legs' and modified some of the interior of the can:

Getting the angles to match up was especially challenging, and there's still a long way to go to make those legs accurate but it's looking better. Digging out the trenches in the angled portions of the bottom piece is also going to be somewhat challenging, but I'm having a lot of fun putting this puzzle together.

More to follow.

After some feedback in the RPF thread, some better reference shots came to light. I've made some adjustments based on these, still need to add the solid bits under the top arms, but the switch-panel details should be better now:

Rockers are now quite a bit wider, added the slot below the rockers, fixed the 'plate' that the rockers attach to, adjusted the vents as well as the status light... thing?
