Forgot to make my son's Jawa costume...OOPS!!!
I remembered at 10:30 - ish last night, and immediately went scrounging thru closets and boxes. Eventually, I came up with some circuit boards with amber l.e.d.'s, a toggle switch, some wire, a 9v battery(taken from the alarm clock), some thick weave fabric, and some scraps of vinyl.
The first thing I did, was run to the store to grab some brown dye. That took a while, because there was a shooting in the parking lot not long after I went in. So, I couldn't get out of the store for a while.
When I got home, I decided to just cut and sew the costume before dying it.
Here is the basic pattern I used.
I got my son out of bed, and had him lay on the material that was spread out on the floor, so I could get rough measurements to go by.
I broke 3 needles on my older than dirt sewing machine that emits a puff of smoke when you step on the pedal. I finished it in record time nonetheless.
Next, I got to work on the pouches. I estimated the size from pictures from Google, and scratched down a quick pattern. I used black vinyl and stitched them together. The flaps are being held down by electrical tape, and the belt is just one of my old worn out ones.
I then started working on the "eyes." I plugged in my soldering iron and waited for it to heat up...I glanced over at the counter, and saw my wire cutters, and then yanked the soldering iron cord out of the outlet, and just cut those l.e.d.'s and the switch off. After dropping the l.e.d.'s a few hundred times, I finally got the silly thing wired up.
Here is my wiring diagram...don't laugh, it worked.
The battery will be suspended from a piece of string around his neck, and the l.e.d.'s are going to be taped to his cheeks or something--I haven't figured that one out yet :confused His face will be blacked out by makeup. I was going to make a mask, but I thought it might be hard to see out of. His blaster is a Nerf Longshot that may or may not get painted in time.
I won't be able to wear my fett, because the kids were playing with the helmet and gauntlets, and left them outside for the dog to chew up...oh well, I needed to make something more permanent anyway.
Stay tuned for pics of the full Jawa costume, I think it best to just let him get some sleep, or I would have them posted by now.
I'm exhausted now, so, HAPPY HALLOWEEN EVERYONE AT TDH!
