I made some progress on the back panels finally. Last night I finished the final layer of green. I think I am finally getting the hang of air brushing. haha Probably should have figured that out before starting the helmet. oops.

I am letting the green dry for a few days, then I will buff it and add the final details I missed.

After that I will weather them. Do I add a clear coat before or after weathering step?

also, what part of the helmet should i tackle next?

Nice job.

Wow haven’t updated in a while.

I took a break for a bit. Modeled up some new lightsabers for 3d printing and a helmet stand. Cleaned up my shop and made some more room to be able to airbrush my projects.

The other day I started in on the cheeks and mandibles. Masked the base grey 147 and sprayed the metallic silver 11. Then masked the silver 11 and painted grey 79 on the upper and lower cheeks. Masked off the upper and lower cheeks and then sprayed green 78 on the lower cheeks. Tomorrow I will do black 33 on the upper cheeks. Then I will need to do the rest of the layers in the mandibles.

Yesterday I sprayed the purple and let that sit over night and then peeled all the masking off. Tonight I sprayed the red. I got impatient and peeled the masking off after an hour. I know it’s not 100% spot on to the movie prop but I still think it looks good. Especially for my first time airbrushing a helmet.

A light black/brown wash over the whole thing can be good to just de-uniform the colors a little bit and give some grit into the crevices, but careful not to overdo it though unless you're going for the 40 years later Celebration IV look. The film look is actually surprisingly clean of much washing, most the weathering was airbrush and splash details, like the blue on the bottom of the cheeks, the black around the dent, and the brown splashes on the stalk and all surrounding the right ear. Also a lot of very light tan powder or drybrushed splotches here and there on the dome, and tons of of micro silver scratches. Also don't forget the big glob of white paint smeared on the killstripe. You can see a lot of them on the rafal reference.

A few randa relevant screens I happen to have in my folder:
Dome Rust.jpg ESB Helmet Dirt Stain.jpg Post ESB Rust.jpg ESB 2 Piece Perspex 01.jpg

Thanks for the help guys. So I’m thinking I’ll add the black around the dent/scorch mark the gray along the cheeks and side of dome and then the brown splattering and call it done. I’ll skip the wash, I think. I’ll see how it looks without it and decide from there.
