General ROTJ costume build (conversion from SE)

Just as an FYI, the JP symbols you're referring to were used on one of the ROTJ jetpacks but not on what some consider the "main" ROTJ jetpack (which was also reused for the ROTJ SE costume.) So those replicating this style don't use the markings, which may explain why they're harder find info on.

Yeah the jetpack issue has been a pain to figure out as there were multiple versions used. I was directed to the image below (ROTJ promo) by jbdubz as reference as it's closest to what I have now based on the rivet on the right and overall weathering patterns. You can barely make out the symbol below the rivet.

Somehow the symbols disappeared completely by SE but they were there before, if indeed they were the same one. However I would greatly appreciate if anyone with deeper knowledge of this can chime in and clarify.

I had been looking at reference pictures for awhile after I sent my message and realized the same thing. If you look hard enough in some photos you can still see a faint faded blue ink which appears to be all that is left of the markings.

Greetings fellow hunters. Here's a quick update on my parts acquisition;

12mm or 1/2 inch hole brass grommets and M5 plastic screws and nuts to attach armor plates to the vest based on RafalFett's schematics.

Jetpack symbols on decal. The negative parts will serve as masks for me to (lightly) paint the symbols on.

I am missing one crucial element to putting all these together. Time. Following my move back to Singapore 4 weeks ago, I've been incredibly busy settling into my new home and new job, which entails working till late. But as many builders here will attest to, you cannot rush the process, even if it's going to take years.

Have a great weekend!

While nursing a fever and throat infection today, I decided to keep myself busy by starting work on my left gauntlet. Honestly, I only expected to get one or two things done, but one thing led to another..

I'll do a proper installation of the keypad with its buttons at the end of the build.

IMG_20180913_120602-01.jpg

I'll clean up the gaps around the battery cover with putty .

IMG_20180913_120723.jpg

This thing is starting to weigh twice my previous setup so I'm going to have to figure out a more robust rigging method to prevent it from rolling around my forearm.

IMG_20180913_172455-01.jpg

The replica buckle was replaced with a genuine vintage one.

Dakota's studs are deadly! The edges are sharp and WILL draw blood If you're not careful. So I sanded down the edges and corners so they won't hurt my minders.

Next up, cut the rocket collar off and replace with an MCR one.

Meanwhile my mother is sewing these onto my neck seal.

It turns out my indicator lamp is too big and sits too tall on the gauntlet when compared to reference photos of the Hero prop.

I'll have to source for a more appropriately sized lamp before proceeding with paint since I will have to patch up the hole now.

In the meantime, I made some minor progress with these;

I used toothpaste for the chipped paint effect and applied a black oil paint wash over to age it further. I'll leave this to dry over the next week before I seal it with clear coat.

Spray painted the metal rocket collar with Krylon Flat Black and scuffed it up with steel wool. It is attached to the rocket's top and main body with JB Weld.

I worked on the jetpack symbols today. I got a set of decals from DeLucks Design and got a buddy of mine to convert them into decal transfers. The negative parts served as masks through which I dabbed diluted black paint with a sponge. The symbols were then scuffed lightly with 1,000 grit sandpaper to age them.

I also painted and installed the metal vent from MCR.
