"Prepro #1 " Fett The "Preproduction #1" costume is primarily seen in Star Wars Chronicles by Deborah Fine. This costume is often referred to as the "eyes" costume as the helmet has two eye-like symbols painted on it. These symbols clearly come from Joe Johnston's oiginal concept sketches. The original "eyes" were later removed and new "eyes,"even MORE akin to Johnston's concept art, were added higher up on the dome of the helmet. However, the original "eyes" can still clearly be seen. Also note that the original version of the "eyes" helmet lacks the "kill marks" over the left ear of the helmet. Some interesting points to note. In Joe Johnston's concept art Boba lacks the horse girth, trophy braids, and cape. The cape is seen later in Ralph McQuarrie's concept paintings. We have had the opportunity to talk to the woman who painted several iconic Fett costumes. She was sent the prepro 1 costume on a mannequin as a model to paint three additional helemts and suits. When she received the eyes helmet, it lacked the cape, the gloves, the braids and the girth. She picked up these pieces from local stores. Below are pictures of this very influential woman with the early version of the prepro 1 suit without the cape, gloves or braids (the girth had been added at this point). Also shown is a pic of her actually dying the prepro 1 gloves!
Unlike any other suit, this suit has a clip on Fett's right shoulder that allows the cape to be held across Fett's chest like a cloak. This gives the feel of Fett's original intent as a gunslinger like clinteastwood from such movies as a Fistful of Dollars.
